Uses for Mugwort and fresh Ginger, an Insulation Moxabustion Demonstration by Cory Trusty Daytona, Florida. International Chinese Medical Journal of Daytona
Wondering what can be done with the Mugwort bush in your garden? Mugwort, or Ai Ye, is used in Chinese Medicine in a method called moxabustion. Dried leaves, or moxa, is rolled into cones or balls and burnt over various acupuncture points. A common technique used by acupuncturists, it is most often used to tonify the body and move stagnant blood. There are various moxabustion techniques, one of which is Insulation Moxabustion. It involves burning cones of mugwort on a something, for example a fresh ginger slice, which positioned above the chosen acupuncture point. This method is dangerous if performed carelessly, but if one is very careful, it can be performed safely at home using the protocol described. Insulation moxabustion with fresh ginger on the point Ren8, or the navel, is useful for improving indigestion, chronic poor digestion, bloating, gas, nausea, low energy, and Spleen Qi deficiency. Please use caution if you choose to try this technique at home.
