Mayan Acupuncture. When I was travelling in Peten, Guatemala in 2000, I was surprised and excited to learn from the family who I was staying with that Mayans also traditionally perform acupuncture. It was explained to me that they used spines from the lemon tree to perform scalp acupuncture for head ache. They first used alcohol to clean the area. I always regretted that I didn't so a thorough interview and ask for a demonstration, etc. I was extremely pleased when I found these two articles on the web documenting Mayan Acupuncture and Comparing the two medical systems.
