Ren[2] Shen[1] "Human Root" Rx. Ginseng Chinese Ginseng
Properties: sweet, slightly bitter, slightly warm
Channels: Lung, Spleen, Heart
Functions: Tonifies Source, Spleen and Lung Qi.
Generates fluids.
Calms the spirit.
Improves thinking.
Indications: Shock or Coma. Chronic fatigue accompanied by tiredness
in the moring, scalloped tongue, loose watery stools. Deficient Wei Qi with
symptoms of catching colds easily, shortness of breath after walking, spontaneous
sweating. Tired before midterms/finals. After febrile disease use Sheng Shai Shen
to replenish fluids. Diabetes with thirst. Thirst after blood loss.
Dosage in decoction: 5-10g cook on low fire for 1 hr
Caution and contraindication:
Excess Heat patterns, Yin Deficiency with Heat signs
Not to be taken with the Chinese herbs: Li Lu (opposite action compared to RenShen),
Wu Ling Zhi (decreases function of Ren Shen), Zao Jiao (will cause illness),
Lai Fu Zi (opposite action compared to Ren Shen)
